What are solar panel grants?

Solar panel grants are available to homeowners and landlord under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, created in 2013 by the UK government. The scheme was designed to reduce carbon emissions and provide support for low-income households who are struggling to cover their energy bills.

Homeowners and landlords can apply for grants from their energy supplier that will help pay up to 100% of the cost of a solar panel installation. This is usually done through either a voucher or through direct payment to the installer. In some cases, grants are also available for other energy-saving measures such as insulation and more efficient boilers.

As part of the ECO scheme, energy suppliers must provide support to low-income households in order to meet their targets under the scheme. This means that those on lower incomes may be eligible for additional grants or larger payments.

The scheme also requires energy suppliers to provide information and advice on energy-saving measures, renewable technologies and home heating systems. This is to ensure that consumers can make informed decisions about how they can save money on their energy bills while reducing their carbon footprint.
